Your tour guide will meet you at your centrally located Bruges Hotel from where you will start your tour. You’ll make your way to the very heart of the city, The Market Square, peppered with historical highlights including the 12th century Belfry of Bruges, the Provincial Court and the Statue of real life heroes Breydel and Coninck.
Follow your guide along the beautiful canal passing by the EU College before reaching the beautiful Tanners Square, named after the leather workers whose guild used to be here. Have your camera ready as you pass by the 12th century Basilica of the Holy Blood,home to what is believed by many to be a vial of Jesus’ blood. The stately City Hall, and a true Renaissance gem, the Palace of the BrugseVrije all located at the breathtaking old traditional European plaza, Burg Square.
Finally, you will visit the Beguinage, a beautiful medieval walled area that was once home to the Beguines. You will learn about these ladies who lived here under the protection of the city. The Begijnhof is also one of the quietest and most peaceful places in Bruges! You’ll pass by Brewery Half Moon, an authentic and historic brewery in the center of Bruges and the stunning, historic Church of our Lady, which dates from the 13th, 14th, and 15th centuries. The tower is nearly 123 meters high, and is the highest structure in the city of Bruges. Your tour does not include an inside visit of the church, but your guide will tell you about the most celebrated sculpture in Bruges that was donated to the church in 1514, Michelangelo’s Madonna. It is definitely worth going back to see after the tour!
