Windstar – Case Study

Project Dates:

May – September 2025 (3.5 months)

Project Components:

  • Accessibility assessment of 1 ship (Star Pride)
  • Application of accessibility standards (ADA, ISO 21542, ISO 21902, Sage Best Practices)
  • Sage accessibility training for crew
  • Certification of 2 of 5 disability types

Windstar Cruises partnered with Sage Inclusion to evaluate and enhance accessibility aboard the Star Pride, one of its signature small ships. The 3.5-month project provided actionable steps to ensure that guests of all abilities can enjoy Windstar’s boutique cruising experience.

The assessment reviewed embarkation and reception areas, internal routes, elevators, restrooms, cabins, dining venues, leisure facilities, and medical and entertainment spaces. Each was measured against international accessibility standards including ADA, ISO 21542, ISO 21902, and Sage Best Practices.

In addition to physical assessments, Sage conducted two Sage Accessibility Awareness Training sessions for crew members. These sessions included interactive presentations, quizzes, and discussion, and equipped onboard staff with greater confidence in serving travelers with disabilities.

By the end of the project, Windstar had met criteria to become Sage Certified for two disability types and Sage Checked for three disability types.
